The little girl's name is Miracle. She came to our eye clinic in Limon in 2007. I offered to hold her while Mary fitted her mother with reading glasses. I guess that Miracle wanted some glasses of her own because she immediately whipped mine off and began to play with them.

Call for Prayer Warriors

Daily crowds come to the medical clinic.

As many of you know, Mary and I began doing short term medical mission work with the Alabama Honduras Medical Educational Network back in 2006. Since my retirement, our involvement in this effort has continued to grow until it now consumes us nearly 24/7. For the past couple of years we have made at least three trips each year to our adopted home and participate with three to five medical teams annually. We will return this year from June 4 – 12 to the work at the Clinica de Los Angeles in the small village of Belaire. We will conduct eye exams, fit both near and far vision glasses, and, more importantly, share the Good News of Christ’s redeeming grace.

Mary tests near vision acuity.

We would like your support. Belaire is an area of incredible need. We serve a varied mix of indigent farm workers, village folk and people who come down from the nearby cloud forest. By-in-large these people have been abandoned by the civil and social systems of their government and completely marginalized by the prevailing culture. By secular accounts the area’s only reason for existence is to harbor runaway lawbreakers, misfits and other deviants. In truth, these are God’s people. We would like to ask that you join us in reaching out to them.

God provides hope for the hopeless.

Mary and I covet your prayers and we are asking that you consider becoming a Prayer Warrior for us while we are on our mission trip. If you consent to do this, we ask that twice a day while we are gone that you pray boldly both for us and for our entire team—both Americans and Hondurans--that God will use this mission trip to further His Will, that our work be seen as a demonstration of His love, and that our evangelical, medical, and optical ministries bear fruit for the Kingdom. Ask God to bring healing, both spiritual and physical, to the people with whom we interact and that He ignite within us and our companions a continued desire to serve with the knowledge that we are but the gloves--It is God’s hand that directs us.

If you are willing to be a prayer warrior for this mission, please let us know.  We will give your name to our team leader, who will in turn be praying for you as you pray for us.  One cautionary note – if you do agree, we will surely ask you to do so again. These photos were taken this past January-February at Clinica de Los Angeles.
